According to U.S. Geological Survey statistics, each person living in the United States uses an average of 89 gallons of water each day.  In Indiana, that number is slightly lower at about 76 gallons per day. As you might guess, toilets–followed closely by washing machines and baths/showers–account for the greatest amount of water use inside the home. But did you know that more than half of municipal water use is outside the house, watering grass.

Sustainable water practices are one of the easiest ways you can reduce energy costs and save water. Water conservation methods as well as the below fixtures are readily available to reduce both interior and exterior water use:

  • Low-flow WaterSense certified faucets, showerheads, and toilets
  • Aerators on kitchen sink faucets, low-flow
  • Rainwater collection for exterior use
  • Faucet reuse system that captures water from the bathroom sink for use to flush the toilet.
